After a number of years of working too many hours for too little pay I've been given the great blessing of no longer having a job. This has in turn allowed me to pursue some of my hobbies from years gone by - including archery.
I have a wonderful recurve bow, hand made for my mother many many years ago which as long as I remember growing up nobody every fired. Somehow it has passed into my hands. I had a compound bow given to my by my father when I was a teenager which I learned to shoot with and hunted rabbits and coyotes.
Well over the last few weeks I've dusted off that recurve, fitted it out with a new string and taken it out shooting. Oh how much fun.
My wife mentioned that she had never fired a bow in her life. So I took her out with that recurve the other day and we had a blast. Because the bow was made for my mother who is almost the same size as my wife, my wife was able to pull it without problems. It took her a while to get the hang of it but by the end of the evening she was hitting pretty close to where she was aiming.
If you've never tried archery I encourage you to do it. It requires a mixed set of skills to be successful but can be highly rewarding.
